They're healthy partners and as of now, nothing has changed that one bit. Overall they try to ask each other for approval on KH related stuff just like John himself asked Square for their approval to have the KH Mickey in DI in the first place. Though Disney knows making a game without Square Enix their partners would be disastrous. and people have created a few based on classic Kingdom Hearts characters like Mickey. All new characters are endemic to Kingdom Hearts. Donald and Goofy and all other Disney characters do not appear. Overall Disney owns the rights to the IP as of current as the games' labels show after KH1. Kingdom Hearts features levels from Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II and Birth by Sleep. Apparently Square gave the rights away to Disney in favor of more Mickey screentime as opposed to his brief appearance in KH1 which Disney was responsible for that. Why Because Yozora was introduced in a Kingdom Hearts game, not his own standalone one.
Many of the things within Kingdom Hearts belong to Disney, but there are some exceptions, including Final Fantasy characters and original characters such as Sora (Kingdom Hearts) - Wikipedia or Xehanort. The House of Mouse exclusively owns him despite Yozora being based on Versus XIII Noctis, period. Though in the service of Maleficent, he does see the Heartless as a force that he could use to take over for his own selfish desires. The franchise as a whole belongs to Disney, but not everything within it belongs to them. Not sure why this was still being disputed since it's been known since 2004 that Disney owned the rights to the KH IP and original characters coming straight from Nomura's mouth himself even though he and Square made the characters and practically the story etc. As much as I would love for that to not be the case, Yozora is not a Square Enix character.
